During the period between departure from Lothlórien and the sundering of the Fellowship at Parth Galen I have identified three main aspects of the relationship between Aragorn and Frodo, namely:

Choice of route

Closeness and trust

Protection

Choice of route

As Aragorn told Celeborn in LotR 2.8.367, Gandalf had given no indication of his intended route beyond Lothlórien and may not even have had any definite plans. Thus the Fellowship were in a situation where they had to make their own decisions as to which way they should go and when, how far they should go by boat and whether they should stay together or split up. The main burden was on Frodo as Ring-bearer and the only one who was under any obligation to go to Mordor, and on Aragorn who was now leader of the Company and Frodo’s chief protector.
